Dear Craneville Families: I hope everyone had a wonderful week.  I am so glad families were able to make it to swim night!  It was a wonderful evening, full of smiles. Thank you again to the PTO for making these family opportunities possible, as well as field trip for our students.  The next meeting is Wednesday, April 3rd at 6:30 in the Craneville library. We hope to see you there!

Thank you to all the families that attended the K-2 concert today. It was enjoyable to hear our students sing and to see all the smiles. It was a job well done.

Courtney Meisberger and Kaitlyn Manns will be hosting a book study group for CBRSD families. The chosen book is Let Them Thrive: A Playbook for Helping Your Child Succeed in School and in Life by well known author and CBRSD consultant Dr. Katie Novak. Mrs. Manns and Mrs. Meisberger were teaching assistants for Dr. Katie Novak’s Universal Design for Learning (UDL) graduate course last spring.  Let Them Thrive is an enjoyable and easy read written to help parents understand UDL and it provides parents with tips, tools and strategies to support their children’s learning. This group will meet for 4 sessions during the evening at Craneville: April 23rd and May 7th and 21st and June 4th from 6:30-7:30 PM. Books will be provided. More information and a sign up form are available at this link. Please sign up by April 3rd.

Peter Pan is off to an excellent start. These rehearsals will be continuing in May. Our actors and actresses can certainly practice lines between now and then!

There is also room for more parents to attend Child and Parent Yoga on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. Please let me know if you would like to join the group!

MCAS testing for grades 3-5 will begin on Friday April 5th. I did send out a letter to families in grades 3-5 with specific dates.

Wahconah Building Project

Dalton Community Television produced an informational building project video called “Paying it Forward”. It contains information, testimonials, explanations, and visuals regarding the Wahconah Building Project. The video is about 30 minutes long. You can access it via this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmtsM66FbGc&t=1s

Helpful Resources to make an informed decision:

Key Facts:

  • The full cost budgeted for a new Wahconah is $71,871,107.

    • This is a “turn-key” cost (includes demolition of the old building and contingencies).

  • The estimated MSBA reimbursement is $31,226,147 (including reimbursement for the feasibility study).

  • Seven member towns of CBRSD are estimated to pay approximately $42 million.

**NEW SCHOOL VOTE** - Saturday, April 6th at your local polling stations (10am-4pm)

  • A “Yes” vote will result in…

    • Partial state reimbursement for the cost of the building.

    • A new Wahconah to be built on the baseball field next to the current building.

    • The new school would be scheduled to open in the fall of 2021.

  • A “No” vote will result in…

    • A new school will not be built.

    • The district’s involvement with the MSBA reimbursement program will end.

    • Any further costs due to repairs will be transferred directly to district taxpayers in full (base repair costs are estimated to be between $33.5 – $38.5 million).

Please let me know if you have any questions moving forward. Have a wonderful weekend!
